The daycare center of the sponsor JAO gGmbH is located behind the old town hall in Friedrichshagen is . A new staircase connects the listed old building with a new extension. 60 children, from 1 to 6 years, are cared for here and accompanied throughout the day with a focus on music. The pedagogy of the daycare center with its focus on musical education results in the design concept. Music and rhythm are translated into shapes and colors. Like the keys of a piano, colored stripes are placed next to light wood and are complemented by black accents. The result is a keyboard that can be experienced and played.

Storage space and the stairway to the plateau were combined into one large element. The room obtains a clear division and despite strong color accents a calm atmosphere. The recesses loosen up the overall appearance of the built-in element. The shelf becomes a place of experience with play niches and retreats.
Colored stripes also structure the wardrobe and combine the bench, dressing aid and built-in cabinets into a harmonious image. In the staircase that connects the two parts of the building, there is a children’s house above the stairs with interior windows towards the main entrance. The playing area is thus expanded and the staircase becomes a place for amusement and encounters.
The group rooms take a step back in terms of design, but implement the keyboard into the flooring and wall design. The colored stripes can be found in play platforms, steps, wall design and flooring. The result are bright, friendly rooms that invite to play and make music.
Color stripes in the tile backsplash also incorporate the children’s bathroom into the design concept, creating a cohesive overall look. The children are welcomed and accompanied through the Wardrobe, staircase, bathroom and corridors to the group rooms.
